Since 1991, the Mississippi County Literacy Council has been helping adults improve their reading ability and reach their goals. Our trained volunteer tutors work with learners one-on-one to target their specific learning needs. We provide individual and small-group tutoring in the following areas:
Reading
Math
Finances
Health
Computers
English language
The Mississippi County Literacy Council runs off the generous support of volunteers and donors. Housed in the Blytheville Branch of the Mississippi County Library, the MCLC provides training, support, and resources to its tutors and volunteers. Tutoring sessions can be held at any of the six County Library locations, or at any Arkansas Northeastern College branch. Consider joining our volunteer staff and supporting the great work of Mississippi County Literacy Council!
The need is great

Approximately 1/5 adults in Mississippi County, AR cannot read on a 5th grade level
Over 7,000 adults in Mississippi County cannot read or perform basic math functions well enough to function in society
Adults who have difficulty speaking, understanding, or reading English have a much harder time finding employment, navigating the legal system, understanding their children's teachers, and following medical instructions
Older adults and those in a transitioning workforce often lack the basic computer skills necessary to function in an increasingly technological world
